CONNECTING GREAT GUIDES WITH SMART TRAVELERS

We believe in supporting our local communities and are committed to giving a voice to self-employed guides who have chosen Munich as their home. By ensuring that every native English speaking guide represents our unique style of mixing history and story-telling while maintaining their own personality and flair, we’ve become one of the most popular tour companies in the world. Helping superb independent guides connect with thousands of travelers a day, we provide these local freelancers the possibility to inform and entertain you, and they employ us to spread the news about this great concept.

BUT HOW CAN A FREE TOUR BE ONE OF THE BEST IN EUROPE

The answer is simple: because the informed, entertaining, and unforgettable guides on our Free Tours work on a tips-only basis, the highest quality is guaranteed! They’ll never pressure you to tip – even though the guides receive no compensation from our host cities for the free tours they provide. We believe that if money is given, it should be voluntary and in direct proportion to the quality of the tour and the budget of the traveler. Even though our guides appreciate tips, your applause means so much more, and we’re happy to welcome you as our guest!

Not only will you meet other travelers, learn something, and enjoy a huge beer and a giant pretzel in a genuine beer garden; this three-hour English-language walking tour goes deeper than just introducing the sites. We delve into the city’s amazing history, from the darkest hours to the brightest moments.

The walking tour covers all the main sites, such as:

• The Glockenspiel
• Hofbräuhaus (the world's most famous beer hall)
• Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady)
• Viktualienmarkt (famous outdoor market)
• Royal Residence
• New Town Hall
• Old Town Hall
• National Theater
• The Real Origins of Oktoberfest
• Church of St. Peter
• History of Beer Gardens
• The legend of the Devil's footprint
• Memorial to the German Resistance
• The Feldhernhalle (Memorial to Bavarian Generals)
• Theatinerkirche
• St. Jakobsplatz
• Tips and tricks for staying in Munich

...and more!

The Free Tour starts everyday at 10 AM, 10:45 AM,1 PM & 3PM, on Marienplatz by the large column. For your convenience, we offer a pick up service at 9:30am, 10 am, 12:30pm & 02:30pm in front of Starbucks in Hauptbahnhof and accompany you to the starting point. Be sure to look for the guides wearing red T-shirts!

We begin the tour on Marienplatz (Mary’s square) and watch the oldest and most famous Glockenspiel in the world. We then head to the Frauenkirche, the Church of Our Lady (the twin towers which dominate the Munich skyline) and then pass back through Marienplatz, visit Altes Rathaus and St. Jacobsplatz, with a brief stop at Viktualienmarkt. After walking down Munich’s answer to Rodeo Drive , Maximillianstr., we follow the path Adolf Hitler took in 1923 when he tried to shoot his way into power during the Munich Beer Hall Putsch. Through the study of memorials (or lack of them!) we can see how Munich comes to terms with arguably the darkest 12 years of world history: The Third Reich. Like all great city tours, we finish with on a high note. A story of sex, scandal and, you guessed it…BEER!

The tour runs in all weather.

Towering over rocky crags at the foot of the German Alps, Neuschwanstein Castle has inspired awe and wonder ever since it opened to the public in 1886. Our tour is a full-day, fairy tale adventure that is not to be missed!

A 2-hours train journey through the majestic Bavarian countryside takes us to the idyllic setting of Neuschwanstein. We take in the splendor village of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein's neighboring castle and discuss the famous Lohengrin legend while overlooking the Alpsee.

TUES-SUN 10:45AM & 1PM AT MARIENPLATZ

MUNICH'S CONCENTRATION CAMP MEMORIAL: Soon after the Nazis took power, the Reichsführer SS (Heinrich Himmler) ordered the construction of Dachau to serve as a special prison for political (and later social and ethnic) enemies of Nazi Germany. By the time American soldiers liberated the camp in 1945, more than 32,000 people had lost their lives to the camp's deadly conditions and the guards' brutality.

We our proud that our guides are authorized to provide this tour within the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial - something that very few guides in the business receive permission to do.

Our 3 hour tour of the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial covers:

Jourhaus - Where prisoners first entered the camp and passed through the gate cast with the now infamous words "Arbeit macht frei" (work will set you free), Shuntroom - Where the prisoners were registered and given a number as their new identity, Barracks, Roll Call Square - Where the fates of the prisoners was decided two times per day.
Crematorium / Gas Chambers...and much more!

Munich – often called the “Beer Capital of the World” is a city teeming with beer halls and beer gardens, where the amber liquid flows without end.

The original New Munich Beer Challenge is a 4-hour beer experience which shouldn’t be missed. We visit the beer halls, beer gardens and breweries which are among Munich’s favorites. No experience would be complete without a stop at arguably the most famous beer hall in the world, the Hofbräuhaus. We discover how beer is made; the important part beer halls play in the history of Germany and Bavaria, and learn drinking traditions and songs along the way.

Enjoy an afternoon with new friends relaxing in sunny beer gardens and beer halls with some of the world’s finest beer, bratwurst and other classic German cuisine. Sing along with traditional ‘umpapa’ bands and if, after four hours (and two free beers and a shot of Jägermeister from us!) you’re still standing firm, you’ll be awarded your own individualized membership card to help you remember your success!

potsdam tour THIRD REICH TOUR: THE CAPITAL OF THE MOVEMENT
€12 adults
€10 students

MON THUR SAT 10:45AM AT MARIENPLATZ

Hitler called Munich ‘Die Hauptstadt der Bewegung’ (the Capital of the Movement); the city and its surrounds were central to the rise to power of the Nazi leader. On this three-hour walking tour, we examine the infamous streets where some of the darkest stories of human history took root and grew into Hitler’s dictatorship.
We ask how a nation of people known for their level-headed thinking allowed what is perhaps the greatest tragedy of the 20th Century to happen and how the world lay sleeping while the Nazis built their war machine and solidified power.

Munich emerged from almost complete destruction during the Allied WWII bombings and was restored to its former glory. But the scars still remain. During the tour, our expert guides reveal the traces of the past and the irrevocable footprints of Nazi rule still visible today and finally answer the question: could it happen again?

On this three-hour walking tour, we cover all the main sites and stories including:

The Hofbräuhaus- the world's most famous beer hall, as well as the birthplace of the Nazi Party, Feldherrnhalle, Brienner Straße- home of the Nazi Party's powerbase, The Führerbau- site of the infamous Munich Agreement, Altes Rathaus, Karolinenplatz,
Square of the Victims of National Socialism, Königsplatz, Sterneckerbräu, German resistance movements, Memorials to the victims of the Third Reich, Vergangenheitsbewältigung... and much more!
