"More than the usual" - BBC "the most charismatic and entertaining tour guides in the business" - Cosmopolitan Magazine Start your visit in Munich with the original Free Tour; Munich ’s incredible history is best seen on foot and this tour is the best way to get to know the city. Our expert guides love Munich and believe that you deserve the best possible tour, no matter your travel budget. Because they work for their tips, every tour is consistently one of the best in Europe. Not only will you meet other travelers, learn something, and enjoy a huge beer and a giant pretzel in a genuine beer garden; this three-hour English-language walking tour goes deeper than just introducing the sites. We delve into the city’s amazing history, from the darkest hours to the brightest moments. We begin the tour on Marienplatz (Mary’s square) and watch the oldest and most famous Glockenspiel in the world. Marienplatz also offers many examples of the quite simply fantastic effort the city council has gone to reconstruct the beautiful city which is still Munich today (80% of inner city Munich was destroyed by the Allied bombings during the Second World War.) We then head to the Frauenkirche, the Church of Our Lady (the twin towers which dominate the Munich skyline) and then pass back through Marienplatz, visit Altes Rathaus and St. Jacobsplatz, with a brief stop at Viktualienmarkt. After walking down Munich’s answer to Rodeo Drive , Maximillianstr., we follow the path Adolf Hitler took in 1923 when he tried to shoot his way into power during the Munich Beer Hall Putsch. Through the study of memorials (or lack of them!) we can see how Munich comes to terms with arguably the darkest 12 years of world history: The Third Reich. And like all great city tours, we finish with on a high note. A story of sex, scandal and, you guessed it…BEER! The walking tour covers all the main sites, such as: - The Glockenspiel
- Hofbräuhaus (the world's most famous beer hall)
- Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady)
- Viktualienmarkt (famous outdoor market)
- Royal Residence
- New Town Hall
